The road, which is within the boundaries of TCK 4th Regional Directorate connects Ankara to the Aegean Region. Since existing 2 lane highway has became insufficient for the traffic flow, project was tendered in 1998 and the construction works for upgrading to 2 x 4 lanes divided state highway have been started in the same year.

The Erzurum-Erzincan State Highway Construction within the boundaries of TCK’s 16th Regional Directorate, being one of the main arterial highways of Eastern Turkey had recently been proven to be insufficient under prevailing geometric conditions and generated increasing traffic flows.

Consequently, with the tender in 1997 the construction works for improving the geometry of the road and upgrading the standards of the road surfacing as bituminous hot mix have been progressing.
